ABOUT US

It started with a personal mission: Andy George decided he wanted to see how complicated it would be to make a chicken sandwich, if he had to source all the ingredients and make the sandwich himself, completely from scratch…no grocery stores or buying items that come through our modern product distribution system. The process took six months for him to grow the wheat to make the bread, along with lettuce, tomato and cucumber (for pickles). He travelled to the ocean to collect sea water which he boiled down for the salt. All in all, after tallying up how much time he spent on travel and paying himself minimum wage, the total cost of the sandwich was a whopping $1,500. Lucky for us, Andy decided to film the entire process of his personal challenge, which he turned into a documentary film. Andy toured the Film Festival Circuit and got some critical acclaim and attention for his work. Andy partnered with other Film and TV professionals to develop his concept into a TV Series.

The Team produced 8 episodes for Twin Cities local television. Those episodes were the cut down version of Andy’s sandwich project, making a three piece suit from scratch, a glass bottle from scratch, a root beer float from scratch, an iron tool from scratch, a leather bound book from scratch and a chocolate bar from scratch.

The episodes garnered critical acclaim and won the Team a Regional Emmy Award. Then just by chance, they decided to put the episodes on YouTube, with a super condensed version of the Sandwich Video. That video quickly went viral, garnering international press attention. Quickly the Team realized that YouTube could be a wonderful long term platform for them to continue the experiment of seeing how difficult it can be to make the items we use from scratch.

Today the HTME Team consists of 5 core members.
